Sun Micro sees fiscal first quarter loss

SAN FRANCISCO, July 18 (Reuters) - Computer maker Sun Microsystems Inc will post a "slight loss" in the current fiscal first quarter, as revenue drops from the June quarter in line with historical trends, Chief Financial Officer Steve McGowan said on Thursday.

He told a conference call with investors that for full fiscal 2003 Sun was targeting revenue growth of 10-15 percent and normalized earnings per share of 10-15 cents.

"We see no change in the current IT (information technology) spending environment, McGowan said.

Analysts polled by Thomson First Call on average saw fiscal 2003 earnings of 17 cents, with estimates ranging from 10-26 cents per share.

Lehman Bros. analyst Dan Niles commented, "Guidance was disappointing."
