I could not get www.siliconinvestor.com to resolve, So i did a whois and called the holding company for SI, infospace inc, at the main line. I was put on hold for 5 minutes until I got bored and hung up and called the next number. A PR dude first asked me if I was a "yahoo yahoo" because yahoo boards were spreading a rumor that SI was going of business and that was totally false (gee, I wonder how that rumor got started?).
He then told me that there was nothing wrong with the site and that I was only the 2nd person that had a problem, so it must be my ISP. He said that he had called the "producers" and that there was no problem. Producers. LOL.
Then I asked him if there was anyone besides producers that I could talk to, like maybe someone that knew something about computers, DNS, etc. He asked if I had tried the number listed at the SI website yet. I pointed out the obvious problem with that so he gave me

si-techsupport@infospace.com.

Since this site is about maximizing the value of a buck, I think its an interesting question to ask:

What has our subscription really bought us?
Here's the answer:

6. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES AND LIABILITY
6.1. The Service is provided AS IS and AS AVAILABLE, without warranty of any kind. GO2NET EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: (A) ANY WARRANTIES AS TO THE AVAILABILITY, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, CURRENTNESS OR RELIABILITY OF THE CONTENT AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SERVICE, OR THE SERVICE ITSELF; (B) ANY WARRANTIES THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR FREE, OR THAT SOFTWARE DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED; AND (C) WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

so, nothing much really according to them. But can we really "sign away" our rights? I wonder.
