Good grief! You have a great sense of humor. No, I wouldn't encourage a friend trying to set that up. The prospect of me hitting it off with a religious fundamentalist is, well, risible. Likewise, I don't know why you would go out of your way to date black women. I don't even know why you would go out of your way to date redheads or blondes. Or why either of us would purposely look for a black candidate to vote for. However, if you or I were to meet someone, say at the office or a neighbor's party, who was nice, attractive, and interesting, it seems bigoted to me no refuse a date on the grounds of race or religion. The context that we were discussing was one where the slate of candidates was already determined. We have a slate of two or three candidates running for office. We must choose among them. Are we willing to consider the black candidate or would we just assume that the white candidate would represent us better? You have two tickets for a concert at the Patriot Center. You can invite the woman you met at the neighbor's party or the one at the office. One of them is black. Would that be the basis of your choice? Or would you think about which one was more fun, which one had the sweet smile, which one was more geographically desirable relative to the Patriot Center, anything but race? I submit that if you automatically rule out the black woman on the basis of race..., well, you know. Conversely, if you only dated black women, I'd think there was something seriously wrong with you.
