Sig, thanks for the report.

I am out of Dell for the moment but I expect to buy in on 9/11.

I expect the market to bleed until then.

Dell has done a great job thru all the noise out of their control. I expect them to rocket when the economy improves.

Hey Sig,

I was in Austin in spirit anyway this week! I am surprised that the Austin convention centre was packed. Even in y2000 it didn't seem quite full. Was that lady in the fluffy red dress there saying her usual "Michael you really should give some back to the shareholders in the form of a dividend"? Did you and the rest of the DELLheads dig into a huge steak afterwards as is the tradition? Was J.B.Nabors there?

Much as I enjoyed the y2000 ASM, the 1999 one was a little more fun because the DELL factory outlet (DFO) was open at that time, and I got my flat panel monitor there at a HUGE discount plus an extra 5% off because we had some badges showing that we had just come from the ASM. The reports from you and other faithful reporters at the ASM are encouraging. Dell has well earned the respect of its shareholders and the investment community. Even though it is 50% off its all-time high of y2000, it is a stable haven compared to so much of the wreckage that is out there.

DELL is executing beautifully in a challenging, but huge market. At an $800B worldwide IT market, there is indeed room for DELL to grow from $36B. What it has on its side is rock-solid management who haven't been distracted by mergers and acquisitions, .com businesses or other fantasies. They have steered a cautious and very stable course compared to CPQ and GTW, and are reaping the rewards because of it.

I am very proud to have been a Dell shareholder since 1992. I won't change that any time soon.

D.Plen.

Sig.....You mentioned

Dell's expansion and hiring in the Austin area.

Would you please elaborate on this if you would please.

Over the July 4th weekend I was coming back from
Pittsburgh PA and stopped over in Nashville and the
Lebanon TN sites of Dell.

Nashville had the day off. I was told they are on an
adjusted work schedule at that site.

Over in Lebanon things were just as active and hectic
as usual.

Didn't see any new construction in the area however.

Best J.D.
