True happiness is never found externally. It is a matter of how one perceives and responds to events rather than the events themselves. One can be happy and sad at the same time, but one can't be happy and unhappy at the same time. Why...? This is not a paradox. So often we fail to make a distinction between our emotions because of the awesome generalizing power that the brain avails - sadness, anger, frustration, elation, exuberance, melancholy, unhappiness, etc. are not merely points in a spectrum. They are different in kind. JMHO.
