This is the 'opportunity cost' of the options argument. I think Buffet is a strong proponent of this argument against not expensing options.

Was that double negative intended to clarify or obscure Buffet's position?

I think that the examples have become so complicated with your suggested changes that they don't really demonstrate any point.
