Steppe Gold spe.v is the one i remember most vividly, got burnt for a little on the paa.to, also took a hit on mgr.v Mongolia Gold [reborn now as Tyhee tdc.v, and on my watchlist again], but the biggest political-risk loss in percentage terms was with Steppe - 100%, quite complete -g- .... but spe was in Kazakhstan, mgr was in Mongolia, paa was in Russia .... look what cco.to is doing in Kyrgyzstan, they've had a rock slide and a few years ago a cyanide spill, but they don't complain much about political risk at Kumtor, and they're making good money on it all in all

Btw, it's easy to spell Kyrgyzstan, just sound it out to yourself a couple of times, keer-geez-STAN ... where the ee is spelled with y ... maybe in english the emphasis is on other than the last syllable, don't know

Anyway, i like the sound 'Conquest' -g-, based on nothing more than that and russ' table-pounding i am filled for starter shares, and am the .25 best bid at this moment ... [edit] - filled by Latimer

ngt.v - AGM today .... will Matter and Millar meet tomorrow, and if so will they resolve anything regarding the merger???! ... this is important stuff, not absolutely necessary, but it sure would help the whole project if they could set their egos aside enough to work as a team, make us all a lot more money that way .... eh, russ? ... if they get their heads together there's a good chance of both shares breaking and holding the loonie level soonish, if not the struggle will be harder, bit of an uphill battle ... imho

Sounds to me like the government wants someone to run with it and YQR will try to convince it's them. I did some reading on Kyrgyz and it's among the top business climates among the former Soviet states. Maybe that's not saying much, but metal development ranks high there priority wise. If YQR has some dealing skills, then this is a good setup. I'm assuming Oxus went with them because they did have those skills? The deal with Oxus is a trial run as the payment obligations are not due until the end of 2003, with a smaller payment late this year. To me it's a no harm, no foul situation if it doesn't work out. The stock won't crater from here if Jerooy doesn't pan out, as there are strong backups. Jerooy is the big blue sky potential.

YQR gets an encouraging letter note this part;
"The Kyrgyz State Concern JSC Kyrgyzaltyn (state mining
company), has now confirmed in writing to Oxus and Norox on July
15, 2002 its willingness "to carry on negotiation in the spirit of
goodwill" and is ready to consider "all suggestions in an attempt
to find a solution for settlement of the existing situation."

I think the question they have is, "are you going to mine gold, or just sit in this?"
