I'm really feeling for my friend who road Vanguard 500 up and now down. He did not sell at 140 in Aug 2000 because of paying tax. Yesterday Vanguard 500 fund closed at 81.41

LD: If we can get several panic selling days in a row, climaxed by a selling climax day, then perhaps we can get a bottom of sort by Aug. 14, but otherwise, we could have a very bad September, imho.

Tax loss selling for funds is one reason why Sept is the worst month historically, and could be so again this year.
