No wonder their #$%^& cartridges cost so much. Leave the &*()_ fancy stuff out and let me keep the 10 bucks.

Now, imagine instead that it pops up an order form onto your screen. "Ink running low, order cartridge NOW and it will be delivered within two days." Enter your credit card and the cartridge is on its way.

The card number would already on file <G>. Just click "Order NOW" to make it happen.

It becomes like toilet paper, something you buy when you are running low, not something you buy when you've already run out. Today's printers give you plenty of notice that you're running low.

I usually keep 3 to 6 black and 3 to 6 color cartridges on hand. I've been busy lately and just put in my last color cartridge yesterday. It made me a little nervous; gotta go hit Fry's.

My understanding was the this capability was discussed at various times, but that the marketing people believed it would cause problems with retailers, who might instead favor somebody else's printers.

The "retail" aspect wouldn't be a problem for Dell, would it.
