Taking "under God" out is not a religious statement per se, leaving it in is, and putting it in manifestly was- one need only look at the pronouncement of our president at the time. Taking it out is not a religious statement but a political statement about separation of church and state. Of course I guess you could say leaving it in is also a political statement- a statement that you don't really care about such a separation. But I couldn't possibly agree with you, ever, about that kind of statement.
