"There are a lot of people who see the incredible horsepower that Xbox delivers, from a fast hard drive to the incredible powerful Xbox GPU, and think about other directions in which to focus that incredible power," a Microsoft spokeswoman said. "As we've seen from past modifications to Xbox, the technical expertise involved is pretty high, so we expect that most consumers and game enthusiasts will continue to enjoy Xbox for what it is: the most incredible gaming experience in the world."

Precisely the same hardware as the X-box contains, just with a slower graphics adaptor, can be bought for less than $200 in shops, too, including DVD, TV-out etc. This one runs normal Linux right out of the box. Using the X-box as a Linux computer isn't as good an idea as it may seem.

But there is no doubt, that Microsoft will enter the "Linux market" one day. Maybe their separation of ActiveDirectory from Windows is a step in this direction?
