Golly, i'll bet some of them 345 voted for and supported them federal folks who were fully aware of a type 9/11 but choose pork barrel spending and idiot issues to chase rather than the use of time & money to serve the tax payers for protection and awareness. . As long as the American people in the majority a.k.a. "This nation is P R I M A R I L Y made up of..." allows their nation to be run WITHOUT accountability enforced with criminal punishment, then its something like "You get what you ask or allow, as in want, through your actions to put into place and keep into place activity counter to your well being. (or) If someone breaks into my home and hurts or kills those whom i have living with me under my care and protect, then yes i will hunt them down for justice, but also, and most likely the first thing i do, is take the responsibility to not lock my door or bar my windowes or challenge those persons who approach my living space, and from this i will acknowledge that the hurt and damage done was in part or in full, mine. Also, to make heros or place upon a vehicle as in a parade, these men and women who hold a profession to help and save and protect others comes across as you the person doing this as grandstanding yourself very much in the same shame the t.v. news stations will feed upon these types of sad times to beef up their bottom line for profits. . But then "This nation is P R I M A R I L Y made up of..." seems to want this type of information as described by what the t.v. and movies show as that which causes people to spend their money on, aka violence and others being hurt. . Tell me again why 99% of computer games for teenage boys has sex and violence the degree if displayed using a time machine to adults in the 1950s would cause great concerns for the message received, being that which these boys relate to. . Please tell us again why "This nation is P R I M A R I L Y made up of.." its not their fault for the sickness in the world today. ak

We simply do not yet know the level of the problems, I want to believe, BUT, any company which was both audited by and had consulting contracts with Authur Anderson is Highly Suspect! Were all CEO's solid upstanding responsible honest citizens, wouldn't you expect a mass rush to sign off the validity of their books - perhaps even 5 years back? I have only heard of 3 or so reaching for the pen and in most cases only the current quarter..

I agree with gold_tutor in that you see what you are looking for, and the generalizations (America is bad or America is great) do not really say anything. An example from my own life... Back in the 80's there was an Atlantic magazine with the cover story being about America's cocaine use. The article cited a number in the neighborhood of 100 billion dollars of cocaine was being used per annum in this country. I felt like that statistic summed everything up for me. We are the most selfish, self-centered nation in history. I wrote a letter to the editor, but never sent it, because on the radio that next morning President Reagan cited another statistic.... that we had done 200 billion dollars worth of volunteerism that year. I realized that one stat did not tell the whole story, and the a nation is not a homogenous whole, but made up of individuals, as gold_tutor notes, who are all in different places. The Melting Pot notion of our nation is also a myth. We are a Tossed Salad, with lots of great varieties of vegies and other tasty morsels... though also some rotten stuff (good stuff that done gone bad) .. Anyways.... just my two cents. (gold coins, preferably) ed
