thecow, I too have had cable problems for a week now. Sometimes it is normal with blazing speed, too often it slows to a crawl - much worse than dial-up. Had a technician out here Wednesday and of course it worked well when he came. Today another technician is scheduled to investigate the cable outside the house. Customer service says there's high packet loss when they ping.

I hope they find the problem, because when it works it's great. I'll not install the wireless access point/router until cable has been reliable for at least a month.

OK I have a problem. My telephone outlet is at the opposite end of the room from where my computer desk. This is an apartment, so I cannot pull up carpeting to run the telephone cable under the carpeting. What are my options? The only one I can think of is to minimize the exposure of the wire and then the part that is exposed over a walkway I can put down a throw rug. Too bad I cannot convert some sort of wireless telephone for my use.
