Good idea.

The reason behind the people storing their own munitions was because of the size of the country. A large invasion would overcome the country in a short time.
With personal ownership of military weapons, this becomes much harder to accomplish since all able citizens are trained in and adept at guerilla warfare as well as survival techniques.

For instance, a soldier can build a relatively sound hut with one Swiss army knife as the only tool.

Violent crime is less prevalent in their society. I guess owning a military weapon ensures that result.

I lived there for 3 1/2 years and owning military weapons has absolutely nothing to do with their non-violent society. Nobody is running around the streets with concealed or non-concealed handguns claiming it is their god-given right.
