I've been shopping for cheap laptop because I'm going to be have to be away for awhile. I want something that can just do JavaScript, nothing fancy. Today I saw a 5400 at a yard sale. I carry around spec sheets but I wasn't quite sure about this model so I had to go home to research it. Would have been handy to be able to connect to lowendmac.com right there. Of course if I could have I wouldn't have needed a 5400 but I'm a collector too. One of these days I'll find a MacTV or maybe even a Twiggy.

Of course Apple is on the right track here. The future is ultra light, ultra fast, ultra connected laptops. (Or as Herb points out wearable. Actually there is a company that makes a device that projects images directly into the eyes, not even on glasses.) I think desktops will eventually become, for most people, a thing of the past. You'll have a big enough display or will be able to access a larger home display, wirelessly. Processor power will overtake software, because processor power grows geometrically while software grows arithmetically. Circutry will shrink, flash RAM will replace harddrives or harddrives will become minute. Rewriteable DVDs will shrink to the size of a quarter. Projected keyboards and drawing pads will replace hardware.

No garage project here however.
