AMAT backlog when last reported in April was >$3B. Compare to <$1B at the bottom in 1998. It says the same thing.

Michael, I don't know enough to say one way or another, but some folks have suggested that companies are booking orders -- so that they don't lose their place in line in case the industry recovers -- but not taking delivery of the equipment, and that's why bookings and billings are so far apart. BWTFDIK?
