On April 14, 2000, the Dow dropped 700 points. So, I don't think that it is impossible.

But from a higher base, right? I'm trying to figure this out this weekend so this is timely. What are those collars, they used to be 50pts, and then were modified as a % I believe.

I was atrributing the collars to the divergence in the ^VIX from the 80s, it used to spike more aggressively. But I really don't know.
