I couldn't agree more. The ideal situation would be to have a FED that understands that its duty is to be like a fire department. The FED should simply sit on the sideline and do nothing unless there is clear emergency - such as 911 or inflation that is unquestionably out of control.

Unfortunately, that would mean AG would never get on the cover of Time magazine or have legions of media people trying to decipher his every facial gesture.

The bad news is that the other members are probably not any better and congress doesn't have the guts to more clearly define the role of the FED.
