Has anyone else noticed: Most short term or long term market bottoms have come after the VIX spikes up parabolically, but the run up in the VIX during the past two months has not been a parabolic spike. It has been in an upward trending channel. That implies the high value of the VIX doesn't mean the same thing as it did in the past. I would not use it as a sign of a market bottom (long term or short term) until I see a parabolic spike.
