I agree that it would probably be a very good thing if it could be done without completely alienating software developers. The transition might be painful, however, and would come on the heels of the painful transition from 9 to X.

Can't see why Motorola would be that motivated to keep investing in PPC development, with Apple selling fewer that four million machines a year. That puts Moto in the position of having to produce a few hundred thousand each of at least half a dozen kinds of chips.

But I was just thinking of how well Virtual PC would run inside Mac OS X if it were running on an Opteron. Zowie!
