Anyone that has lived in an unfree culture knows what that engineer was talking about. The snooping and spying, the endless maneuvering for petty advantage, the meanness and cruelty... Sure, you can find these things in the U.S.A. too; but they are way less common here than anywhere else in the world; and it is a wonderful thing to see Ashcroft wants to make us an unfree culture.

Mike,

Good article. The Brits love to complain about the US, but are intelligent enough to recognize that America is the only country they can depend on to keep the world from falling into chaos.

Bottom line is that England and France are very jealous of the US for having completely taken over their former roles of power and leadership, and in fact the US stewardship has been far and away better than anything they were able to muster up.
