What criteria should the postal workers use to determine if someone is "iffy". Could it be they are iffy if they didn't give him that christmas bonus, or if they read right wing material or get material in the mail from say...you? But that's not all. Think of the jeopardy it puts postal workers in. Suppose they report suspicious activity among say folks living in the rural south. Oops, where'd Jim the mailman go? It's bs to even propose such a thing and downright unAmerican.

Actually, this article excerpt says it better. "Ashcroft's informant corps is a vile idea not merely because it violates civil liberties in a narrow legal sense or because it will sabotage genuine efforts to prevent terrorism by overloading law enforcement officials with irrelevant reports about Americans who have nothing to do with terrorists. Operation TIPS should be stopped because it is utterly anti-American. It would give Stalin and the KGB a delayed triumph in the Cold War - in the name of the Bush administration's war against terrorism."
