russ, all I know is Simmons timing doesn't always seem to be 'on'. His reports typically discuss the upside potential quite hard, but seem to be a little meek when the other end of the stick comes around.

A lot of folks read him like he is the 'God' of energy what all. Yet these same folks write posts deriding things like dishonest reporting, pro forma, paybacks, biased reporting, the PPT, and well you get my point.

So ... a thing that has crossed my mind is who does Simmons work for, and how does he make his money? Is there a motive perhaps for him to be biased, or more biased one way than the other? I think I've concluded yes there probably is, as Mr. Simmons is human. This doesn't necessarily make me read his work any less however.

As for him being a generalist I don't know the guy. When I go into his site I can readily find the words 'investment banking'. These days those two words don't make a person feel all that comfortable.

As for the other points you make I totally agree. I am watching some gassers here as well.

Re the LT prognosis of the energy industry I think it is probably best to assume it continues to do its up and down thing, don't you?

Russ,
Has there been any change in the story of PEL? I remember your mentioning it when it was over $3. I like the fact they are buying back shares in a big way. Is this a good way to play the Simmons analysis?
Thanks,
/Kit
