I've spoken to lots of people in the UK about the Middle East, and the bottom line is that they feel safer distancing themselves from anything to do with Israel. There are lots of radical Islamic organisations operating over here, and people feel quite vulnerable to terrorism (which has plagued the UK for decades via the IRA.) England also has a long history of anti-Semitism, which was chronicled in the movie "Chariots of Fire", and is still an ugly demon present in British society.
