Israel has had leaders who have done a lot for peace. But it has also had leaders who have thumbed their nose at peace and the current one, Ariel Sharon, is known for a "extremely" hard line approach. I am not of the opinion that any Arab leader has demonstrated a willingness for peace, barring say Anwar Sadat and King Hussein of Jordan. But right now the Assad and Abdullah are moderates by past standards. So a altered approach will likely succeed. And yes Hosni Mubarak is also a key player and I am assuming he is on board with the US.
