Check Point says to match estimates for second half

NEW YORK, July 22 (Reuters) - The chief executive of Check
Point Software Technologies Ltd. <CHKP.O> on Monday said he
expects the Internet security company to match analysts'
earnings estimates for the third and fourth quarters but said
revenue was harder to predict amid an unpredictable technology
spending environment.
Speaking on a conference call with analysts, Gil Schwed
said he expects the Israeli company to match analysts'
estimates for earnings of 25 cents a share in the third quarter
and 27 cents in the fourth quarter.
But he also said customers continue to curtail their
technology spending amid the tough economic climate, making
revenue hard to predict. He said he expects third-quarter
revenue to be little changed from the second quarter's $108.6
million. For the fourth quarter, he said the company was hoping
for a "slight uptick" in revenue from the third quarter.
Earlier on Monday, Check Point posted a second-quarter net
profit of $64.7 million, or 26 cents a share, compared with net
$86.8 million, or 33 cents per share, a year earlier. The
company is the leading maker of firewall protection and virtual
private network software used to block intruders from corporate
networks.
Shares of Check Point rose to $14.85 in pre-open trade on
Monday from a Nasdaq close of $13.86 on Friday.
