I think Lord Lucan was the heavy brigade commander. His heavy brigade sustained only minor losses.

There was an earlier version (much), starring Errol Flynn. I don't think anyone would rely too much on that one for historical accuracy <gg>. I will definitely seek out the British film. Terrific cast!

I have read quite a bit about the charge. I would recommend The Charge by Mark Adkin, lavishly illustrated and meticulously researched and detailed.

The Brits seem to have a tendency to beat up on themselves more than anyone else when it comes to revisiting their history (Adkin is British). But sometimes, as also with Gallipoli, the inspiration that arises out of monumental failure is the most important aspect and message of all.
