Lord Cardigan was in command of the Brigade.

He led the charge all the way, and miraculously returned unscathed. He lived out his life as a highly celebrated hero, although there were grumblings about his leadership at the end of the charge, when the survivors were not sure what to do next, and had to make the choice as to whether to press on or try to get back. (Prior to the charge, Cardigan lived in luxury on his yacht moored near the front, with servants and lavish wines and cuisine. He appeared as a fop, but when the charge came he did not lack for courage).
