After the Egyptians closed the Suez and Tiran canals to shipping in 1956, the French, British and Israeli armies reopened the canals and occupied the region until a UN peacekeeping force was moved in. Another important goal of the joint effort was to wipe out Egypt's supply of Soviet weaponry, which I'm sure we can all agree was a good thing. Right?
