Far be it for me, an engineer, to comment accurately on a geo-quasi-political military action...

but I will anyway...

It's unlikely that anybody with pre-cognitive abilities have been retained by the military to foresee the ultimate outcome. By and large, a process of severely crippling al-Queda, Hamas, n17, and any other sympathetic organization/despot will result in an reduced threat -- but there will be no end to terrorism. There can only be a high enough threat to the terrorists, through a combination of making them weaker, and their targets stronger, that further attacks are not only ineffective, but the attempts extremely painful.

Again, I am an engineer. I profess no knowledge of how this will play out.
