HerbVic - Re "the rainbow spinner"

This has been the show stopper for me. Happens too often and locks up the entire system. No force quit, no terminal, nothing. The only recovery is a hard reset, and DiskWarrior reports extensive directory repairs. Until this is fixed I'm keeping X on an external FWHD, and 9 on my internal with all of my important stuff.

Too bad. I've become very comfortable with X, particularly Quartz and the Dock. 9 looks and feels clunky.
