I cannot imagine how you get young men to believe in the competence of officers giving orders. You KNOW that in any organization most of the people are fairly incompetent. And to put your life on the line when the odds are the fellow ordering you around is not giving a very good order- well it blows my mind. I wouldn't do it. My dad did- and came out of the war very bitter about officers who he figured were cretinous for the most part. My dad wouldn't have done it a second time.
