Don't forget that Unix runs on Intel and also that Sun has an initiative with Linux. The real question is support and services.

Intel always channels their sales through other vendors. Those vendors are dependent upon Intel for quality control. In the recent case of Itanium that has been a complete disaster for Intel's channels.

Even with good quality, there is the issue of support. Support costs money. IT shops always factor that into the TCO.

Sun and IBM are a tough act to follow. I completely agree with you about HP.
