Of course, I believe that Microsoft is actually trying to turn the Internet and WWW into a proprietary system. The degree to which that is successful affects the short term for J2EE vendors.

Why do you say this? While I'm sure Microsoft would love to do this, I don't see signs of them trying to enforce it via the .NET Framework, which has acquiesced to delivering html front ends. What they're clearly trying to do is squeeze out Java and Sun by moving devlopers onto the new managed code framework.
