AMD needs to switch the production to .13u SOI to be profitable, and having sufficient Tbreds in inventory would allow them to do it early, while maintaining the ability to sell existing chips without disruption.

The problem with this theory is that it would be risky to switch a big percentage of production to Hammer before at least small quantities of the CPU have been on the market for some period of time, to reduce the risk of a showstopper bug.

For this reason, I would like to see a "pilot" release of Hammer earlier that the planned end of Q4.
