SAN DIEGO, Jul 23, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall from COMTEX/ -- ImageWare Systems, Inc. (Amex: IW chart, msgs) today announced, through its long-standing relationship with Identix Incorporated (Nasdaq: IDNX chart, msgs), the development of FACE ID Web(TM), an Internet-based version of its FACE ID(R) facial recognition software.

ImageWare's FACE ID employs advanced biometric technology that allows users to identify a list of possible suspects by measuring distinct facial characteristics. With the eyes as a reference point, FACE ID utilizes a mathematic formula to produce a data record representing the face in question. The data record is then compared to a database of records that are created from mugshots, suspect composites, video clips or scanned photos. The search engine is resistant to changes in lighting, facial expression, hairstyles, disguises and pose. ImageWare customers have been using FACE ID in a stand-alone or networked environment since 1998.

FACE ID is enabled by Identix' proprietary FaceIt(R) facial recognition technology.
