Why buy telecom stocks at all? I believe the only reason to buy Nortel or Lucent at these prices is strictly to make a quick buck when they go from $1.60 to $2.25 or so, playing the quick ups and downs. Jump in today. It won't be long before LUCY will be back over 2 bucks. You can't be "true" long term investors in this "stuff" now.

If I were a long term investor I'd be looking at other companies in other sectors. The telecom industry is going to flounder for a long time.

Lucent doesn't even think it will be back on its feet until late in fiscal 2003 now, and one thing I'm sure of is that they're not sure of that! Next announcement it will be early fiscal 2004 ... maybe the 1st or 2nd quarter .. uh?

The technology keeps advancing so fast that everyone will have more capacity than they can ever use. Competition will be so fierce that they'll all (the ones that are left) be giving their services away just so they can brag to the other guy ..."I've got more customers (share of the market) than you have even if I'm not making any money!"
