When the Israelis cracked down on the West Bank last month, Hamas made the same threats. The fact is though that the situation has been much quieter, and there are starting to be some serious discussions going on between Israel and the PA.

Hamas makes these threats to scare people, when they feel they are losing. History has shown that the violence flares up when Israel backs off, because the terrorists interpret it as a sign of weakness.

If Israel was firing missiles and running tanks into Hamas areas while simultaneously backing out of the settlements, that would be one thing. But they aren't backing out of the settlements. In fact, they aren't even freezing them. 44 new settlements have been built during the Intifada.
