The funny part is that the non-criminal though highly unethical shit that went on and still goes on is masked by the headlines, because the truth about how easy and facilitated the wealth transfer was is too crazy for the bovines to bear

Good point, and not funny at all, if the general conclusion is the fall is due to wide-spread criminality, instead of being a natural consequence of the mania.

ODB - True story, the illegal aspects are only making it worse. However, if you want to be really cynical, the only parts of this story that will survive in the history books will be the tales of illegality, attributed to a small handful of individuals, with very little ink given to the greed, stupidity and gullibility of the investing public.

As you said, no one will want to buy a book where Chapter One starts off by telling the reader how stupid he can be
