The Itanium II CPU is out - and can be used. The price is 3000+$US (for the fastest, largest cache version). I don't think many run of the mill desktop owners will be willing to pay that to browse the web.

The CPU is currently used in 4+ way servers, and is meant to dethrone SUN, IBM and the rest of the server manufacturers. 60% of the server revenue comes from a small volume piece of the pie - and that is what Itanium II is currently being targetted at. Smaller cache variants meant for mass consumption are going to be follow on products.
