Microsemi Introduces Charge Pump Doubler With Linear Regulator for Low Noise Applications

-- Fixed or Adjustable Output

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 2002-- -- Wide 1.8V to 4.4V Input

-- Internal Thermal Shutdown Protection

-- Noise Sensitive LED Driver Applications

Microsemi Corp. (Nasdaq:MSCC - News), today announced a new charge pump doubler with an integrated low dropout linear regulator for noise-sensitive applications including mobile phones, medical instrumentation, wireless PCMCIA and EMI sensitive circuitry.

Designated the LX1882(TM), the new charge pump doubler is available in two versions: one having a fixed 3.3V output, and one with output adjustable from 2.5V to 5.5V. The adjustable output version is ideal as an inductor-less LED driver in noise-sensitive applications.

The second stage of the new Microsemi device is a linear low dropout regulator (LDO) that converts voltage boosted in the first stage into a low noise output of up to 50 milliamps. Operating current is less than 150 microamps. Design-in flexibility is enhanced by the LX1882's inherent stability that allows for a choice of either ceramic or tantalum low-value capacitors in external component selection.

"Designers also have a choice of two industry standard surface mount packages for the LX1882," said Paul Pickle, director of marketing in Microsemi's Integrated Products group. "Both the fixed and adjustable output versions come in either an 8-pin SOIC or 8-pin MSOP package," he said.

Other features include internal thermal shutdown and current limiting protection at a switching frequency of 550kHz. Typical quiescent current drops to only 1 microamp, or less, in shutdown mode.

The LX1882 charge pump doubler is available for immediate sampling and delivery. In 10K quantities, either fixed or adjustable versions are priced at $0.79 in the SOIC package and at $0.76 in the smaller MSOP package. Complete technical information and data sheets can be found on the Microsemi Web site, www.microsemi.com. Samples can be ordered from this site or through Microsemi sales representatives and franchised distributors.
