It is important to make two distinctions here.

1. There are different issues on which one can be conservative or liberal. An example would be the European (Dutch?) politician who was recently killed for his racist views. He was extremely anti-immigrant and racist, both of which are considered to be "right-wing" views. He was also extremely liberal on social issues and was openly gay. This study found that journalists tend lean left on social issues and right on economic issues:

2. The media is not a monolith. For example, the news media are far more conservative than Hollywood.

Most importantly, the media tend to be centrist.

"On bedrock issues of economic power, what passes for liberal-conservative debate in news media is usually a series of disputes over how to fine-tune the status quo."

I await the day the Feds bust in on CNBC during trading hours, and take away assorted guests, anchors and producers in handcuffs.

Perhaps Harvey Pitt, if he's not too busy being head of Homeland Security, Justice, and the CIA, will find time to host Squawk Box.
