But who's saving us from this:

The Nasdaq is set on Monday to launch SuperMontage, its new trading-and-order display system. While the Nasdaq can begin trading test stocks on the system at that time, it is still awaiting final regulatory approval to trade real securities in the system.

SuperMontage (three years and $100 million in the making): This program will allow traders to view the Nasdaq's market makers and at least a few electronic communications networks [ECNs].... traders will have the ability to compare prices before placing their trade with the market maker of choice. Nasdaq, the regulator, would also decide who gets to be viewed on their platform....

They spent all that money to hook a few more L2 fools into believing that they can somehow beat the market by seeing what's in the specialist's book. Hell, the specialist could never do that contrary to what every wag in SI believes and contrary to what the great Ney himself believed. Did they really think that anyone could benefit from such a device? The question is, how fast do quotes change? In all pertinent cases they will change faster than you can react. It's a come-on. They couldn't have wasted dues money in any worse way. Consider how timely it is. Just in time for SEC investigation.
