Maybe instead of "platitude", I should use "heuristic".

If one just sits back and take a dispassionate view of the market, look at historical reference for VIX +50 and all the other high indicators, and ignore all the doom and gloom, I would have to come to the conclusion that we are in for one hell of a rally (bear market or not).
