Andreas,

Wouldn't a pilot launch take the steam out of Hammer's launch?

I don't think so. I think Clawhammer will not run away in every single benchmark because of 2 possible problems - 256K L2 and single channel DDR. What would take a lot more steam out of the Hammer launch is when we see initial Clawhammer losing some benchmarks to P4. This way, we would be "eased" into Hammer's potential over time, and I think we will be able to better appreciate the strengths.

On a somewhat related subject, I understand Intel's release strategy of releasing a new product in it's strongest form and later releasing the cost-reduced version as Celeron. AMD seems to be doing things backwards (Barton / Tbred, Sledge / Clawhammer).

Joe

Andreas, could it be that the 2400+ hammers are not SOI and are therefore Mhz/Heat limited?
