I don't have a lot of time right now to get into this but I did want to make a point or 2. Could the net effect be zero, yes, it could. Cary's point about a stock trading at 10 and options issued at the same price is a case in point. I would ask, what's wrong with detailing the company's generosity to it's insiders? If the net is zero, so be it but if management is being generous, then that should be documented, somehow, and it seems appropriate to me that it should be included on a quarterly basis. How else can the company document their compensation packages?

I'm very open to opinions on how these issues should be treated. Where do they fall, on the balance sheet or income statement or other possibilities, like breaking down in a separate section? Management should not be afraid to detail their actions and if they are, it's obvious that they are doing something wrong or, at the very least, the groundwork is laid for unethical or illegal activity.
