From CBS Marketwatch:

On a GAAP basis, Amazon.com could earn 5 cents, according to U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray. On that earnings outlook, Amazon.com trades at 271 times next year's earnings.

By contrast, EBay (EBAY: news, chart, profile) trades at 45 times next year's $1.14 in expected sales.

...

"Amazon.com's ability to generate free cash flow in the second quarter appears to have been aided by a reduction in inventory," said Charles Mulford, director of the Program in Financial Analysis at Georgia Institute of Technology. "The question remains whether it can continue to generate cash flow in the absence of inventory reduction."
