Until now, I had trouble grasping how easy it could be. I've done software porting before, even between similar architectures, and if the code isn't written very well, you can run into a lot of problems! Fortunately for DB2, the developers programmed it exceedingly well. I wonder what the prospective user base is for DB2 under Linux, especially since IBM hasn't committed to selling any hardware with Opterons included (though they may soon enough - IBM seems to be a company that likes to hedge, and they have the money to do so).
