Yes, people had 2.4 YEARS to short effectively. Why now? They had an equal amount of time to cash out their longs, but they waited for maximum pain to pull the trigger in many cases. Joe Blow will lose in the market over shorter time periods of a few years. He chases sentiment and responds emotionally. I doubt Buffett was selling much stock in the past month. I would love to know what he was buying, however. (I already hold LVLT bonds so I can't play that angle any further.)
