I do not understand business models for companies that manufacture a product that spends its capital making investments in anything other than R&D, CAPEX and expansion of capacity. I would expect partnership agreements could be investment capital for R&D, manufacturing, distribution or other things associated with creating wealth for the stockholder. I would not expect a company to buy the stock of a partner. These companies using their precious capital in the casino betting on stock capital gains IMO is abusive use of capital.
